Overview

What NEET actually tests

NEET-UG is the single national entrance test for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, veterinary and most allied medical seats in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER. Over 20 lakh students appear each year for roughly one lakh MBBS seats, which makes it less a test of exotic knowledge and more a test of accuracy under pressure across a very predictable NCERT-anchored syllabus.

Because the paper is pen-and-paper, single-shift and heavily NCERT-aligned, the students who convert are usually the ones who finish the syllabus early, then spend the last six to eight months in repeated revision and full-length testing. Biology carries half the paper, so it decides rank; Physics decides whether a good Biology score survives.

NTA's rationalised syllabus follows the current NCERT Class 11 and 12 texts. Chapters removed from NCERT are outside the paper, but topics retained in NCERT appendices and diagrams are fair game — we teach directly against the current NCERT edition.

Eligibility

Who can appear for NEET

Minimum 17 years of age as on 31 December of the admission year.
Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subjects.
Minimum aggregate in PCB: 50% for General, 45% for General-PwD, 40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL.
Class 12 appearing students may apply, subject to passing before admission.
Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and foreign nationals are all eligible to appear.

Marking scheme

+4 for every correct answer, −1 for every incorrect answer, 0 for unattempted. There is no sectional time limit, so pacing across Biology, Chemistry and Physics is a skill you have to rehearse in mocks.

- Run Class 12 syllabus in class while a weekly slot revises Class 11.
