NEET rank predictor 2026: convert your marks to an All India Rank

Use the free NEET rank calculator below to turn your mock score or percentile into an expected All India Rank — plus indicative NEET marks-to-rank and percentile-to-rank tables, the chapters that carry the most questions, and a four-step method to turn a score into a plan. Figures are compiled from publicly reported data across recent years; NTA publishes scores and ranks, not an official marks-to-rank mapping.

How to predict your NEET rank in four steps

1. Take a timed mock

Write a full-length NEET-pattern mock — 180 questions, 180 minutes — in one sitting. Your raw score out of 720 is the starting point, not your chapter-test scores.

2. Map marks to rank

Use the marks-vs-rank table below as an indicative range. Paper difficulty moves the exact number every year, so plan against the lower edge of the range.

3. Convert percentile to rank

Rank ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × total candidates. At the recent scale of roughly 23 lakh candidates, each percentile point is worth about 23,000 ranks.

4. Find the cheapest marks

Compare your chapter-wise errors with the weightage tables. In NEET, an NCERT Biology chapter you keep getting wrong is worth more than polishing a Physics chapter you already own.

NEET marks to rank: indicative table (out of 720)

Compiled from publicly reported data across recent NEET-UG cycles. Paper difficulty and candidate count move these numbers every year — plan against the lower edge of each range.

Marks (out of 720)Approx. All India RankWhat it typically means
700 – 7201 – 100AIIMS Delhi and top-college territory; decides the AIR 1 race
680 – 699≈ 100 – 500Top government medical colleges in most states
650 – 679≈ 500 – 2,500Strong government colleges; AIIMS campuses beyond Delhi
620 – 649≈ 2,500 – 8,000Good state government colleges through All India Quota
590 – 619≈ 8,000 – 20,000Government MBBS realistic for many categories and state quotas
550 – 589≈ 20,000 – 45,000Government seats possible via state quota; strong private options
500 – 549≈ 45,000 – 90,000Private and deemed universities; BDS in government colleges
450 – 499≈ 90,000 – 1,60,000Private MBBS and allied courses; check state counselling carefully

Percentile to All India Rank

Rank ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × total candidates. At the recent scale of roughly 23 lakh candidates:

PercentileApprox. All India Rank
99.9≈ 2,300
99.5≈ 11,500
99.0≈ 23,000
98.0≈ 46,000
95.0≈ 1,15,000
90.0≈ 2,30,000
50.0 (qualifying, general)≈ 11,50,000

Chapter-wise weightage for NEET

Observed question counts per chapter across recent papers — an indicative pattern, not an official weightage list. The paper has 180 questions: 45 Physics, 45 Chemistry and 90 Biology.

Biology (Botany + Zoology — 90 questions)

Biology is half the paper and decides most ranks. NCERT line-by-line coverage is non-negotiable — the observed pattern across recent papers:

Chapter groupQuestions (approx.)Priority
Human physiology (digestion, circulation, neural, endocrine, excretion)12 – 15High
Genetics & evolution (inheritance, molecular basis, evolution)10 – 12High
Plant physiology (photosynthesis, respiration, plant growth)6 – 8High
Cell biology & cell cycle4 – 6High
Ecology & environment6 – 8Medium
Reproduction (plants and humans)6 – 8Medium
Biotechnology, microbes & human welfare5 – 7Medium
Diversity, structural organisation & anatomy8 – 10Medium

Chemistry (45 questions)

Chemistry is the fastest section to convert into marks — NCERT-line questions dominate inorganic and much of organic. Observed split:

Chapter groupQuestions (approx.)Priority
Organic: GOC, hydrocarbons, aldehydes & ketones, amines, biomolecules13 – 15High
Physical: mole concept, thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, kinetics, solutions14 – 16High
Inorganic: periodicity, chemical bonding, coordination compounds, p- and d-block13 – 15High
Direct NCERT-line factual questions10 – 12 within the aboveHigh

Physics (45 questions)

Physics is where most NEET aspirants lose their rank — it rewards numerical speed, not depth. Observed pattern:

Chapter groupQuestions (approx.)Priority
Mechanics (kinematics, laws, work-energy, rotation, gravitation)8 – 10High
Current electricity & magnetism (incl. EMI and AC)6 – 8High
Modern physics & semiconductors5 – 7High
Optics (ray and wave)4 – 5Medium
Thermodynamics, KTG & heat transfer3 – 4Medium
SHM, waves & sound2 – 3Medium

NEET rank predictor — FAQs

How do I convert my NEET marks to a rank?

Use the free calculator at the top of this page: enter your score out of 720 (or your percentile) and it returns an indicative All India Rank range. The mapping is compiled from publicly reported data across recent NEET cycles — paper difficulty shifts it every year, so plan against the higher end of the range.

How many marks are needed for a government MBBS seat in NEET?

It depends heavily on category and state quota. As a rough recent-year guide, general-category candidates typically needed around 590–620+ for a government seat through All India Quota, while state-quota cutoffs vary widely — some states close lower, some higher. Always check the official counselling data for your state and category.

How is the NEET rank calculated from the percentile?

Your All India Rank follows your percentile among all candidates: rank ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × number of candidates. With roughly 23 lakh candidates in recent years, a 99 percentile corresponds to an AIR of about 23,000. Unlike JEE Main, NEET has a single paper and no shift normalisation.

What is the qualifying cutoff in NEET?

The qualifying cutoff is the 50th percentile for the general category (40th for reserved categories) — it only makes you eligible for counselling, it does not secure a seat. The actual admission cutoff for government colleges is far higher. NTA publishes the exact qualifying marks with each year's result.

Which chapters give the most marks in NEET?

Biology carries half the paper, and within it human physiology, genetics and plant physiology reliably supply the most questions. In Chemistry the three branches split almost evenly, with NCERT-line factual questions the quickest marks. In Physics, mechanics, current electricity and modern physics dominate. The weightage tables on this page show the observed pattern.

Is the marks-vs-rank data on this page official?

No. NTA publishes scores, percentiles and ranks, not an official marks-to-rank mapping. The tables here are compiled from publicly reported data across recent years and are meant for planning. Use them to set targets, not to predict a specific rank.

How can I improve my predicted rank in the last few months?

Fix errors in order of marks-per-hour: NCERT Biology lines first (cheapest marks in the paper), then inorganic and organic NCERT facts, then Physics numerical speed in the high-weightage chapters. A timed mock every week, with an error log reviewed daily, converts coverage into marks fastest.

Scores, percentiles, cutoffs and ranks are decided by NTA. Always confirm the current cycle's data in the official scorecard and notices at neet.nta.nic.in before making decisions.
