How to Create a Study Timetable That You Actually Follow

Most timetables fail in week one because they are built around hours instead of outcomes. Here is a timetable method built on chapter targets, revision loops and honest buffer time.

Why most timetables fail

A timetable that says "6-8 pm Physics" measures nothing. When the two hours end, you cannot tell whether the plan worked. Plan outcomes, not blocks: "finish Laws of Motion numericals set 2, 18 questions."

The four-layer method

  1. Weekly chapter targets — two to three chapters a week, written down on Sunday.
  2. Daily outcome blocks — three blocks of 90 minutes, each with a named deliverable.
  3. A daily revision loop — 30 minutes on something learnt 7 days ago, plus 15 minutes on something learnt yesterday.
  4. Buffer — one unplanned evening a week. Life happens; a plan without slack breaks permanently at the first disruption.

Rules that keep it alive

  • Review the plan weekly, not daily.
  • Never move a test; move the study block instead.
  • Track chapters completed, not hours spent.
  • If you fall behind two weeks in a row, the plan is too heavy — cut it, do not abandon it.

Around 4-5 focused hours on school days and 7-8 on holidays. Quality of the outcome per block matters far more than the total count.
