Overview
What JEE actually tests
JEE is a two-stage route into India's engineering system. JEE Main, conducted twice a year in computer-based mode, decides NIT, IIIT and GFTI admission and screens roughly the top 2.5 lakh candidates for JEE Advanced, which alone opens the IITs.
The two papers reward different things. Main is a speed-and-accuracy paper on a wide but standard syllabus; Advanced is a depth paper where a question may fuse two chapters and where partial understanding scores nothing. A student who only drills Main-level questions usually plateaus in Advanced, and a student who only reads theory struggles with Main's clock.

JEE syllabus, subject by subject
Physics
Roughly one-third of each paper- Mechanics: kinematics, Newton's laws, work-power-energy, rotation, gravitation, fluids
- Thermal physics and kinetic theory

Chemistry
Roughly one-third of each paper- Physical: mole concept, atomic structure, thermodynamics, equilibrium, kinetics, electrochemistry, solutions, solid state
- Inorganic: periodicity, bonding, s/p/d/f block, coordination chemistry, metallurgy, qualitative analysis
- Organic: GOC and mechanisms, stereochemistry, named reactions, biomolecules and polymers
Mathematics
Roughly one-third of each paper- Algebra: quadratics, sequences, complex numbers, binomial, permutations and combinations, matrices and determinants
- Calculus: functions, limits, continuity, differentiability, applications of derivatives, integration, differential equations
- Coordinate geometry: straight lines, circles, conics, 3D geometry and vectors
- Trigonometry, probability, statistics and mathematical reasoning
The JEE Main syllabus is published by NTA each cycle and the Advanced syllabus by the organising IIT; they overlap heavily but Advanced excludes some Main topics and treats others far more deeply. We teach the union and flag Advanced-only depth explicitly.
Eligibility
Who can appear for JEE
- JEE Main: pass Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject; no minimum percentage to appear.
- JEE Main: candidates who passed Class 12 in the current or previous two years may appear.
- NIT/IIIT admission: 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or top 20 percentile of the board, as notified by JoSAA.
- JEE Advanced: be among the top approximately 2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers (all categories combined).
- JEE Advanced: at most two attempts in two consecutive years, and Class 12 first appeared in the current or previous year.

Marking scheme
JEE Main uses a fixed +4/−1 scheme with a normalised score across shifts. JEE Advanced changes its marking scheme every year, including partial marks on multiple-correct questions, so reading the instruction page carefully in the first two minutes is part of the exam skill.

How we plan an JEE year

Class 11 foundation
First year- Mechanics, calculus and physical chemistry are the load-bearing walls — nothing later works without them.
- Do derivations by hand; Advanced questions often test the step you skipped.
- Weekly problem sets at Advanced difficulty even when the topic is new.

Class 12 build
Second year, first half- Electromagnetism, organic chemistry and calculus applications carry the largest weight — protect their class time.
- Interleave Class 11 revision so the syllabus never splits into 'old' and 'new'.
- Begin Main-pattern timed sets: 75 questions in 180 minutes, once a fortnight.

Main sprint
November to January- Shift to accuracy and speed: attempt strategy, question selection, and knowing when to abandon a question.
- Session 1 is treated as a real attempt, not a trial run.
- Full PYQ coverage of the last ten Main cycles, shift-wise.

Advanced depth phase
February to May- Multi-concept problem sets and two-paper simulations on the same day to build stamina.
- Rework every mistake from the Main phase at Advanced difficulty.

JEE — frequently asked questions
- Should I attempt both JEE Main sessions?
- Yes. Only the better NTA score counts, so the first session removes exam-day nerves and tells you exactly where you stand with two months still left to fix it.
- How different is JEE Advanced from JEE Main?
- Main tests whether you can apply a standard concept quickly. Advanced tests whether you can combine two or three concepts in an unfamiliar setting and survive partial-marking rules. The syllabus overlaps; the thinking does not.
- Is 75% in Class 12 compulsory?
- It is required for admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through JoSAA, and for IIT admission, either 75% (65% for SC/ST) or a top 20 percentile position in your board. It is not needed merely to appear in JEE Main.
- Can I prepare for JEE and boards together?
- Yes, and you should. The JEE syllabus contains the board syllabus. We schedule a dedicated board-alignment block before your practicals and pre-boards instead of asking you to choose.
- How many mocks should I write before Main?
- Around twenty-five to thirty full-length mocks, each properly analysed. Ten well-reviewed mocks beat forty unreviewed ones.
- Do droppers have a real chance at IIT?
- Yes. A drop year converts when it is structured — fixed hours, weekly tests and accountability. Our dropper batches run on a test-first calendar for exactly this reason.
- Which subject should I fix first if I am weak everywhere?
- Mathematics, because it is the slowest to build and the largest lever in both papers. Chemistry gives the fastest returns and is usually the best second priority.
